I know we have discussed this before...

Is the old table the "conversion table" or is that the new one? My girls use the "old" table. A girl who vaults on 3 would vault on 2 or 4 on the new table?

I'm not exactly sure what your asking. A conversion table is something that was made to convert old vaults (the long ones) to the new vaulting tables. I never liked the conversion tables much cuz they weren't very stable. My gym got a new vaulting table pretty soon after they became available. As for setting the vault. I can only tell you about the settings for the new vault table. I dont' remember the setting for the old vault. On the new vaulting table (which really isn't all that new anymore), the FIG setting for women is 5 and 7 for men. I don't know what level your girls are, but if they are optionals they should all be vaulting on 5. If they are compulsories 3 or 4 would be ok. I hope that helps Smile

Conversion kit (retro-fit using old horse base): 125cm = 4 notches 120cm = 3 notches 115cm = 2 notches 110cm = 1 notch

New AAI free standing model: 125cm = 5 notches 120cm = 4 notches 115cm = 3 notches 110cm = 2 notches 105cm = 1 notch

Speith-Anderson and Jantzen-Fritzen models have only one piston and have 125cm is marked on the piston.

So you have to go up 1 notch when moving from the old table to the new.

Well, my issue is with level 5's. We have the old table (base). She vaults on 3 in our gym. On the new table would she vault on 1 lower or 1 higher .

Hey, even I get confused sometimes. I use the German Speith vault table (the one with the yellow base). It only has 125cm marked on it. We had to measure and mark the other settings by hand. I now refer to a vault setting in cm, not notches. So warm up at meets can get confusing. When the other coaches are moving the table up and down calling "2 notches, 4 notches" I have to look under the table at the piston and convert cm to notches. Heaven forbid they have a converted vault table.

Hi all,

I decided to sidestep the whole issue and I take a tape measure with me to all competitions. During warmups I'll walk over to the vault, take a measurement, do a translation. We have a retrofit on our vault and the meaning of "notches" is worthless. Rules say 100cm minimum and 135 maximum. We go from there.

My 2 cents on the subject....
