We have an older set of AAI classic style bars mounted with a spacesaver cable system. I have seen some gyms tinker with the cables and remount them differently. This allows the low bar to be removed and the high bar to be used as a single rail. Any ideas? If not, I'll just have to visit the gym and ask them how they did it.
