Just curious to find out where the people on the drills and skills forum fit into this crazy addiction called gymnastics.

I am the head women's optional team coach at our gym. But I was a gymnast for 19 years and competed in college. I have coach everything from preschool to boys to team. My dad owns a gym so I could tell you the ins and outs of owning a gym as well, although I have never done it myself.

I got a late start in gymnastics; I became proficient enough to compete rings for the UCLA mens team. Still occupied the bottom rung of the competitive ladder, though, and it was an honor just to be able to train with world-class athletes who were some of the best in the nation.

I've been training adults through in-home fitness as well as fitness through gymnastics strength and conditioning; this includes gymnastics privates and classes at the gymnastics club I work at (I also help out once a week at a recreation center); there, I also teach some of the rec classes including the ones being groomed to move up to team. I help out with the competitive team about once a week, mostly working with the Level 5's. Men's gymnastics seems all but snuffed out, and our club doesn't have enough boys beyond the preschool age to build up a club team. I live in the Los Angeles area.

I find coaching to be a very rewarding experience, whether it's working with kids or adults.....I have a very good time.....if it weren't for that, I'd probably be making a decent living at a nice-paying job instead. Wink

I am mainly a boys coach, I coach from instructional kids to optional team when needed. Also I do coach a bit of girls gymnastics, and help out with team girls vault and tumbling alot.

Hey Cal,

I am dying to know if you're who I THINK you are:-) I'm Lee with VAFB...if you're with Cal Elite, then ya know me:-)

To answer the poll....I don't do pre school, I leave that to my younger (21) daughter, I don't do boys (but need a mens coach!! Had to fire the last one, don't ask-) I do one rec class and all dev groups except L3, and yes....everything else:-)

It IS a crazy addiction. I SWEAR I am retiring in 5 years, that'll mark 25 years of coaching. Nobody BELIEVES me except for my MD'sSmile Ok, so they insist, whatever... Is there a 12 step group for coaches????

LOL...

Lee:-)

I coach kindergym, all rec gym levels, pre-comp boys and girls and our comp boys and girls. about the only thing i am not is owner (it is a non-profit club). I also do the day to day operations of the club under the supervision of a volunteer board of directors. I started coaching when i was 16, started 2 rec clubs before i was 18 (rural) and then got out of it. Fell back into it 2 years ago when i had to take my niece to rec class ane the board found out i was a certified coach, and the club was going to be without a head coach, now i am stuck. What was that someone said about a 12 step program for coaches lol
