The first video clearly demonstrates why we need to provide opportunity for kids to learn this stuff safely. They are going to try things one way or another. Learning stuff correctly will reduce injury, but here in the US we have to make it difficult due to liability issues... ugh.
Nice vids. _________________ TipGuy

I remember being in the park as a child and having my friends trying to persuade me to do a back flip off a picnic table. I said , "WT NO!" I was impressed with that springboard tire though. I have a big of a fascination with home made gear. |

that tire looks pretty fun, something to think about next time I see a spare tire laying around, especially at a crossfit gym.
flip tire, flip off tire, flip tire, flip off tire |

My first experience teaching kids gymnastics was in Mozambique. I was at an orphanage volunteering as an activities assistant. It had been probably 7 years since I'd been to a gym. I saw the tire flips and joined the flipping line, then saw kids doing ROBH in the sand. So I tried them again. After my first couple days there, I was helping all sorts of younger kids learn their handsprings and tire flips. Many of the children are learning without instruction or spot.
There's tremendous talent out there in the developing world. I met one guy that said they used to do tire flips into the water, that some of them would throw triples.
It was another 6 years after my trip to Mozambique until I started coaching gymnastics. The videos brought back fond memories. |
