Hello all

PLaying around on the trampoline one day we were trying arabians... first drills, like jump 1/2 turn and then a front tuck... then just trying to connect the two.

I have never twisted before in my life and am becoming very interested in starting. So, do you guys have any tips for what I need to keep in mind when doing arabians? right now, on the trampoline, I seem to get high when starting but then I land on my rear with my legs crossed indian style. i do flip over, but it is so low.

Any drills? Anything to keep in mind? One guy told me to pretend I was between two walls to prevent me from starting bad habits.

My goal would be to do a roundoff arabian or maybe a ro-bhs-arabian.

I know thats far reaching, but my round offs pack a punch and I think if I could start learning aerial awareness I could get enough height to get myself around easily.

thanks!!!!

The key to the arabian is not to twist early and around the side. You need to really stand up tall and twist "over" the flip. Set up and back, then twist, then flip. The drill we always use is to set up a stack of mats that's about ribcage high, do RO punch to your back, then RO punch 1/2 turn to stomach (ensuring the twist occurs late). Then RO punch 1/2 turn to handstand. Once you're doing this the arabian is easy.

Thanks Tipguy! I can always count on super quick responses from you guys... even when the board seems slow..

I truly appreciate it and by going through this drill in my mind I think i understand it... I'll give it a try and let you know!

I have always taught that an arabian starts flipping in the 1/4 turn not after the half. But then again we really don't teach anything other than arabian double fronts, so I could understand where flipping after the half is acceptable.

The arabian generally ends up there, but I've always found it easier to teach a distinct 1/2, then flip, then when it starts developing toward bigger skills it can flip sooner. It's much harder to go the other way if they are throwing it around the side.

So ironic Very Happy I'm working on this, and the first post i happen to read on the board after months is about the arabian Very Happy

Btw, i always say i'm no gymnast, i train on hard floor, and most of all, i'm basically self taught, so dont follow my advice, kids Very Happy

I will surely work on the roundoff-standup-twist-flip sequence, but right now i'm building up this one the opposite way, i'm basically doing an half twist, and my first trials were really late twistes, but now i am settling on doing the twist quite at the same time than the flip. I feel safe this way, my front flip on the ground is really BLAH, so this way i dont risk to injury too much...

I know it's off topic, but i add an update here.
My flipping career continues, although not brilliantly as that of a 14yo kid, i am standing tall out of my round-offs, now i have to bring those arms up more and more :-\
Btw i can do a real nice and high pike, right now Smile
And also a legswitch, although i dont seem to figure out how to hit a layout (on ground obviously).... any help is appreciated.

Thank you very much!
