By forward giants, I am assuming you mean with a reverse grip (i.e., back leading the way).
If I have that right, the way I was taught, and the way I have taught, is the progress from forward "baby giants", and emphasize keeping pressure on the bar as they rise, with their hips open (so that their rear end is leading the way).
This way, they can practice swinging in the straps and have it in mind what body position they need to maintain.
It has worked well, but takes time and a good swing and good self-awareness. As always, I too am interested in new ideas and would love to hear others. |

Back uprise out of cast handstand bail forward. Progressing to uprising late and high?
There is another way of doing front giant, but I wouldn't worry about it for now. |

In a front giant it is so essential (especially early on) to get a really good stretch on the downward swing. Your gymnasts should be very conscious of extending through their shoulders from the top of the swing and keeping their center of gravity as far away from the bar as possible on the way down. Any break in shoulder angle or looseness in the hips will severely compromise the swing. I drill this quite a bit on a floor bar before they start working the giant. _________________ TipGuy

| I've never even tried a front giant, and I don't know if this will be of any help, but I did notice that some of the higher level girls at my gym were learning front giants on a channel strap bar with spot (especially in the getting into and stopping phases) |
