Hi,

I had my spine x-rayed the other day and it was found that I had at some point suffered a spinal compression fracture in 2 of my thoracic vertebrae. It is all healed now (to be honest I can't even single out any particular incident where this might have occured and i definately don't think it happened during a gymnnastics related activity) but it just got me wondering if this was a common injury for gymnasts (admittedly I only dabble in gymnastics, I am more of a martial artist).

With all the landing from quite high up, is this seen often? Or do the floors generally cushion impacts sufficiently to make this kind of thing rare?

If the body is out of alignment upon a landing, it increases the injury potential. I'm thinking an injury in the thoracic area of the spine could happen also of some movement on apparatus that goes through a hang phase, be it inverted or not. Tumbling as well.
